Subject: Payroll Tax Table and W2 Updates

    To all Profitool Payroll Users:

    Withholding Updates
We are currently updating those sites who have chosen to remain on
r4v01 for January, 2000 payroll processing and W2s. We are yet waiting
for the published tax tables for a few states (Delaware, Michigan,
Oklahoma, Vermont and Puerto Rico, and Alaska unemployment
withholding). Each week, as tables are published and updated in the
software, we will notify you of the changes in the event you need a
subsequent update for a state in which you have payroll activity.

The following is a history of withholding tax table updates for 2000:

            Illinois
            Maine
            Mississippi

Idaho (round to the nearest dollar)
            Maryland

            Missouri
            New Mexico
            Oregon
            Washington DC

    W2 Enhancements
The W2 Proof report has been substantially enhanced with the option
to sort the records by employee, thus grouping together employees who
have multiple W2's in various states and localities. The sort may be by
employee number, name or SSN. Additionally, the W2's may first be
sorted by state, then sorted by employee within that state. Using these
methods naturally presume the W2s are being submitted to the Social
Security Administration by magnetic media, thereby making the sort order
of the paper copies a non-issue.
The option on the new W2 Proof screen to "Create Mag Media File"
allows processing the W2 Proof in any manner and not overwrite the mag
media file intended for filing. Theoretically, the file would be the
same for each PR W2 Proof request. Yet, it would be recommended to
create the file when requesting the W2 Proof for those forms being
printed and distributed to the employees. Once complete, the W2 Proof
may be requested numerous additional times to create internal copies
without overwriting the mag media file; i.e., sort by state, or
    alternate employee sort.
Regardless of the sort method on the W2 Proof and Print, the magnetic
media file is compiled in only one manner per the TIB-4 specifications
published by the Social Security Administration. One change from last
year is the S supplemental records (state information ignored by the
Social Security Administration) are grouped with the employees' W
records. The S record has been modified according to the TIB-4
    specifications to be Y2K compliant.

    For future consideration:

W2 for selected employees - an enhancement is being proposed to enter
selected employees on the PR W2 PRINT screen to process W2s for only
    those employees.

Sort W2s for paper filing - the enhancements made to the W2 Proof
presume that the information is being submitted to the Social Security
Administration on magnetic media. If any employee has worked in more
than one state, it will be mandatory to file the W2s to the SSA with the
magnetic media file. An option is being proposed to allow filing paper
copies when employees work in more than one state.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call.
